15-Minute Daily Standup Agenda Template (Script + Checklist)
If your daily standup regularly runs long, it’s usually not a “people problem”—it’s a missing structure problem. A simple 15-minute cadence keeps updates short, decisions fast, and ownership clear.
Best for
Scrum, Kanban, hybrid teams—anyone needing quick alignment + execution follow-up.
Outcome
Fewer surprises, faster unblocking, and a visible list of next steps with owners.
Timebox
15 minutes total. Park deep dives into a separate “after-standup” huddle.
Why standups run long (and how to fix it)
Problem: Status dumping
People narrate everything they did yesterday instead of what matters today.
Fix:
Ask for “Today + blockers + next commitment”.
Problem: Live problem-solving
The meeting becomes a working session and the timebox explodes.
Fix:
Use a “Parking Lot” + assign a quick huddle with only the needed people.
Problem: No owner / no follow-up
Blockers get mentioned… and then disappear.
Fix:
Convert blockers into one action with an owner + due date.
The 15-minute daily standup agenda (simple + repeatable)
Rule #1:
Standup is for alignment and commitments. Not deep discussion.
Agenda breakdown
- 0:00–1:00 — Start on time. Confirm today’s goal / priority.
- 1:00–11:00 — Round-robin updates: Today + Blockers + Next commitment.
- 11:00–14:00 — Review blockers + assign actions (owner + due date).
- 14:00–15:00 — Confirm top 3 actions + schedule any huddles.
What each person says (30 seconds)
1) “Today I’m moving [work item] to [state].”
2) “I’m blocked by [blocker].”
3) “My next commitment is [deliverable] by [time/date].”
2) “I’m blocked by [blocker].”
3) “My next commitment is [deliverable] by [time/date].”
Facilitator script (copy/paste)
“Welcome—15 minutes. Today’s priority: [X]. Round-robin: Today, blockers, next commitment. 30 seconds each. If discussion is needed, I’ll park it and schedule a quick huddle. Blockers: we’ll assign one action with an owner + due date. Closing: Top 3 actions are [A], [B], [C]. Any quick risks before we end?”
Tip: Keep a “Parking Lot” list visible during the standup (topics + who needs to join the huddle).
